Share a project
Real-time collaboration requires an account on a Polyodos server. In local mode (without a server), you can share projects manually via JSON export/import.
Prerequisites
- Have an account on a Polyodos server (contact your administrator)
- Be logged in: user icon top right → Log in
- The server must be reachable (organisation network or VPN)
Publish a project to the server
- Open the project to share
- Backup menu → Publish to server
- The project is sent to the server and becomes accessible from your account
The project also remains available locally in your browser — both copies are synchronised automatically.
Invite collaborators
From the Project management page → Collaboration tab:
- Click Invite
- Enter the collaborator's email or username (they must have an account on the same server)
- Choose their role: Editor or Reader
- Click Send invitation
The collaborator receives a notification and finds the project in My Projects the next time they log in.
Real-time synchronisation
When several users work simultaneously on a shared project:
- Changes are propagated automatically to all participants within a few seconds
- A presence indicator in the sidebar shows active collaborators (avatars or initials)
- Changes made by another user appear without reloading the page
Conflict handling
If two users edit the same field at the same time:
- The system keeps the last change received (last-write-wins)
- Every change is reversible via the ↩ Undo button — the undo/redo history is shared between collaborators
Manage access
From Project management → Collaboration:
- Change a collaborator's role — click their current role and change it
- Revoke access — click ✕ next to the collaborator
- Transfer ownership — click ⋮ → Transfer ownership
WARNING
Revoking a collaborator's access removes their access to the project on the server but does not delete data already synchronised in their browser. Ask them to delete their local copy if needed.
Sharing without a server (manual export/import)
Without a Polyodos server, you can share a project by exporting it as JSON:
- Export: Backup menu → Download the project → send the
.jsonfile by email or messaging - Import: the recipient goes to My Projects → Import → selects the file
TIP
This method suits one-off exchanges but does not allow real-time collaboration or version tracking.
Working offline
If your connection to the server is interrupted, you continue working normally locally. Once reconnected, changes are synchronised automatically in both directions.
If conflicting changes were made offline, a resolution panel appears when synchronisation resumes.
